Ms. Kiran Maharaj - General Manager
Kiran is an Upper Second Honors graduate of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. Although her Major was English Literature and her Minor was Political Science, she says she has no desire to go into Politics and feels that the dynamic fields of Marketing and Public Relations is where she truly belongs and where she feels most satisfied.
Her journalistic experience adds to the production quality of special programmes and features at Radio 90.5FM. Kiran also hold a degree in Business Administration and International Marketing as well as certifications in Events Marketing and Management; Certified Radio Digital Marketing; a Fellowship in Broadcast Leadership Management from the NAB (www.nab.org); a certificate from Harvard Business School in Media Management and Strategy; and she is completing her Masters in Internet Marketing. When she's too stressed out she finds all her joy and relief at home with her son.
She holds a Diploma in Journalism and CIM certificate in Marketing. At the age of sixteen (16) she received an International Award from the International Society of Poets of which she is an honorary member. She went on to receive Editor's Choice Awards in Washington D.C. from the I.S.P. and her poetry has been published locally and internationally.
She is the grand-daughter of Bajnath Maharaj, one of Trinidad's founders of Indian Film Distribution who was also a financier of the Nargis and Sunil Dutt hit film, Mother India. As the great grand-daughter of Pandit Vyakaran Bhushan Ramjattan, who came to Trinidad on behalf of the Government of India to fight for the rights of Hindus, Kiran feels that a multiethnic society has helped her to understand the importance of traditions.
Her ambitions have also placed her in the arena of film production and she has worked as Associate Producer on the film "Shells", shot on location in Trinidad for the international film market.
Kiran was also selected by the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington DC, for a fellowship in Broadcast Leadership Management. She is the only non-US citizen to have been accepted in the programme.
She is a director of the Plymouth Jazz Festival Tobago and is currently the Media Relations Manager. She is a member of the AWRT(American Women in Radio and Television), ISES (International Special Events Society); AMA (American Marketing Association); NAB (National Association of Broadcasters; and the RAB (Radio Advertising Bureau).
With 20 years in Media and Entertianemnt, Kiran is also the Founder of the world’s first radio station for women, Heartbeat Radio; she was a Freelance Journalist for CNN’s World Report; she was nominated for a Woman of Distinction Award in Central Florida; and has produced several events.
She is the current President of the Trinidad and Tobago Publishers and Broadcasters Association and Co-Chair of the Local Organizing Committee for the International Press Institute (www.freemedia.at) 2012 Convention to be held in Trinidad
