Synopsis
Set against the backdrop of the Indian independence movement, 1942 is an epic tale of two lovers caught between loyalty to their cause and to each other. The film’s songs are instantly recognizable to every South Asian.
The climax featured two thousand extras and was shot over ten days in an entire city built on a film set-blown sky-high at the end. It was among the first new-wave Hindi films to transcend its borders,becoming a top grosser in diasporic theaters worldwide.
